Level Structure & Curriculum
We as an institute, with our experience, feedback and results have scientifically developed a structured curriculum with 5 fundamental levels followed by Master Level training. Even a child who completes 1st level (out of the 5 foundation levels) as per our curriculum know more about Chess than an average adult who plays Chess as a hobby with friends / family traditionally
Beginner Level
Who should join?
Anyone new to chess with willingness and interest to learn

Outcome
At the end of beginner chess level, the student will know how to play chess as per international rules and basic strategies
Description
It is never really late to learn how to play the game of chess. If you know nothing about the game or only know the moves of the chessmen, then this is the right level for you!
Upstep Academy offers this level for complete beginners. Ideally, students above the age of 4 can enroll in this level.
The objective of this level is to provide the foundation for the student’s game. Welcome to the world of chess!
Advanced Beginner Level
Who should join?
A student who has completed Beginner level of Upstep Academy or having equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the Beginner level.

Outcome
At the end of Advanced beginner chess level, the student will be thorough with basic tactics and opening concepts. There is not the only theory in the level but also practical guidance to defeat amateur players at a competitive level.
Description
Upstep Academy offers this level to give a serious boost in understanding the game. Basic tactics along with basic openings (how to start a game) will be introduced in the coaching sessions. It will also be practically implemented in the games played in the coaching sessions.
At Upstep Academy, our coaches will provide the student with a personalized plan and method of study at the beginning of every week (depending upon which class type you have opted for) to ensure steady progress of the student’s game. In this level, students will be given homework from time to time which will be checked by the coach in the following class. Our coaches will monitor the student’s progress closely by taking periodic tests and solving any doubts the student may have.
Intermediate Level
Who should join?
A student who has completed Advanced Beginner level of Upstep Academy or having equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the Advanced Beginner level.

Outcome
At the end of Intermediate chess level, the student will have basic understanding of endgame, introduction of opening theory and improved understanding of the tactics. Students are all set to go to the advanced level to learn advanced tactics!
Description
After building a strong foundation in previous levels, students are ready to learn basic strategies in detail to progress further in the game. Theoretical Endgame and opening theories will also be introduced in this level. It will also be practiced in the games played in the coaching sessions. Students will also be given homework from time to time which will be checked by the coach in the following class.
The exclusive curriculum will enable students to get a tighter grip on the game and on completing this level students will be ready to start playing local tournaments at regular intervals.
Advanced Level Part 1
Who should join?
A student who has completed Intermediate level of Upstep Academy or having equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the Intermediate level.
Outcome
At the end of Advanced chess level Part 1, the student will be ready to implement advanced tactics learned during the level.
Description
The objective of the Advanced chess level is to take the level of students to the semi-professional level. The exclusive curriculum will enable students to obtain an extensive understanding of Advanced Tactics. To increase knowledge of the endgame theory, advanced endgame concepts will be covered in this level. Since the foundation tactics have built the base, the Positional play of the middle game will be introduced to the students.
Former world champions’ classic games will also be shown with analysis in the coaching sessions.
Advanced Level Part 2
Who should join?
A student who has completed Advanced level Part 1 of Upstep Academy or having equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the Advanced level Part 1.
Outcome
At the end of Advanced chess level Part 2, the student has completed all 5 foundation levels and now is well versed with fundalmentals of chess. Students are capable to understand strategies applied by world chess champions.

Chess is one of the few sports that can be learnt online and offline equally well with guided training, practice and analysis.
How much time does it take to learn chess?
Our beginner level teaches how to play chess as per international rules and basic strategies.
For advanced and master levels, it requires dedicated time and practice. Grandmasters still practice for 6 to 10 hours every day.

What my child will learn in one level?
We have 5 fundamental levels, followed by master level training (all the levels are well structured and are developed scientifically). Depending upon your child’s chess level, they join either of the level.

Can I take break between classes?
Yes, our levels are very well structured, this allows you to take a small break and then start from exactly where you stopped. You can even switch between the formats e.g. from private one-on-one to Group classes and also change frequency.
Who will teach?
All our coaches are certified, well trained and experienced. For different level we have different coaches. E.g. for beginner level coaches, we have trained them in a way that they make chess fun and engaging for kids… for higher levels when kids are participating in tournaments and national and international competitions, we even have IMs (International Masters) and GMs (Grand Masters) train our students.
