Certificate and Homework

Only digital copies of certificates and homework material will be provided.

Maximum Course Duration

The sessions are required to be completed within the level duration mentioned for your respective Level/Course, additionally we may allow a buffer of 2 months (to be communicated in writing before taking a break) – We do not commit the same coach / batch / time / days after the break. If, unfortunately, the class extends beyond the given additional buffer period, the fees paid for the remaining sessions will lapse. (however multiple options will be shared to suit your convenience).

Cover-up class

For one on one classes: If a student misses a particular session and fails to inform the Relationship Manager at least 24 hours prior, a cover-up class will be scheduled for them. The cover-up class will have a duration of 45 minutes. However, if the unavailability of student for the class is informed to the Relationship Manager at least 24 hours prior, the class can either be rescheduled for a later date or be pushed to the next session date.

There will be a total of 2 cover-ups for each level, which consists of 16 sessions.

We expect the student to attend all the sessions to maintain the momentum of learning, unless very urgent and unavoidable – please do not miss the sessions. There will be coverup class for any session that will be cancelled by Upstep Academy due to any reason including but not limited to technical issues, internet downtime, natural calamity. Cover-up sessions for one level cannot be accumulated or transferred to the next level.

Cancellation of classes

In case of one-on-one sessions, if a student/parent wants to cancel the session due to unavoidable situation, it needs to be communicated to the respective Relationship Manager at least 30 minutes before the session time. Late cancellations with less than 30 minutes notice of the session time will be counted as a used session.

Shifting of days and time

In case you wish to change from an existing batch, your relationship manager will assist you with available options for your child’s level. Batch time shifting can be done only after completion of a level.

Substitute coach

Due to medical, personal, technical issues at coach’s end, Upstep Academy reserves the right to provide substitute coach for a specific session/s.

Change of coach

As a student, you agree to enrol with Upstep Academy as an institute and not with or for an individual coach; Upstep Academy reserves the right to change coach for a class / batch on logical ground maintaining the interest of our students.

Recording of classes

To ensure the best possible quality of training and to continually improve our training, we may record the live sessions conducted by our chess trainers. These recordings will be used solely for internal purposes, specifical- ly for training and quality assessment. 

Practical Sessions

Practical session is where students apply what they have learnt in the training sessions. It is like a mini tourna- ment where students play with each other on theme based or non-theme based session. The games will be saved for analysis and reference purpose. These practical sessions are under the supervision of our technical team to attend to any technical query. Coaches are not part of the practical session, they will analyse relevant games during the next analysis session.

1. The Practical sessions are complimentary and in case you miss the session, cover-up session will not be provided.
2. If in case the practical session in cancelled due to technical or operational concerns, Upstep Academy is not liable to compensate for the same.

Refund Policy

Fee paid towards a level/ course/ tournament is non-refundable. Upstep Academy, to the best of its capability and experience, will, try to maintain the quality of teaching and provide the best tools available. You will have a dedicated relationship manager to solve any concern that you might have.

Use of 3rd Party Application

For real-time experience and making the curriculum relatable, the coach may at times utilise third party resourc- es like Youtube, Google, Relevant Chess information website, etc and other apps / portals.

The classes will be conducted as per IST (Indian Standard Time). The daylight effect of time change should be adjusted at the student’s end. The IST class time will remain the same throughout the year.

Cover-up class

a) For group classes: If a student misses a particular session, we provide a cover-up class to ensure they catch up on the missed material. These cover-up sessions are tailored for individuals or a few students who need to learn specific topics. The duration of the cover-up class will vary based on the number of classes missed. If a student misses one class, the cover-up duration will be 25 minutes. If they miss two classes, the cover-up will last for 45 minutes. The decision on the class duration will be made by the Relationship Manager (RM) to best meet the student’s needs.

– A maximum of 2 cover-ups will be allowed for every 16 training sessions.

b) For one on one classes: If a student/parent informs the Relationship Manager about unavailability of the student for a particular session between 30 minutes to 24 hours before the class time, a cover-up class will be scheduled for them. The cover-up class will have a duration of 45 minutes. However, if the unavailability of student for the class is informed to the Relationship Manager 24 hours prior to the class time, the class can either be rescheduled for a later date or be pushed to the next session date.

The coverup session may happen in another ongoing batch where the missed topic is being taught. We do not commit the same coach/ time/ days for the coverup class (the same will be on mutual agreement).
